In 2006, Tinariwen recorded their third album, Aman Iman: Water Is Life, released internationally via Independiente Records in 2007. The album was produced by long-time associate Justin Adams and featured the voice and guitar of founding member Mohammed Ag Itlale. Successfully balancing the upbeat with the plaintive, decorated with disarmingly simple lead riffs and counter-riffs, backed by overlapping meshes of chopping rhythm guitars, hand claps and ululating choruses – the album achieved Global critical acclaim which helped the band tour the world for the first time.
